What the symptom usually means

Most calls start with one of these six complaints. Here is what each one normally points to, so you know roughly what you are booking before anyone opens a fascia.

Not sure which one fits? Describe what the unit is doing in the booking form and we will tell you which service it needs — including when the honest answer is that it does not need one yet.

Three levels of service

Pick by how the unit behaves

Servicing is not one job. Choose by symptom and by how long it has been since the last wash, not by habit.

01

General service

Every 3 months · routine

  • Filter removal, wash and dry
  • Fascia and blower housing wiped down
  • Drain line flushed and tested
  • Airflow and temperature split measured
  • Outdoor condenser rinsed and cleared

Best forUnits that still cool well and are washed on schedule.

02

Chemical wash

Yearly · or when airflow drops

  • Indoor coil foamed and rinsed through
  • Blower wheel removed and cleaned
  • Drain pan scrubbed, line cleared
  • Fascia and louvres stripped and washed
  • Bearings and mounts checked for play

Best forWeak airflow, musty smells, or a first service in over a year.

03

Chemical overhaul

Every 3–5 years · deep

  • Indoor unit dismounted from the wall
  • Coil and drain pan fully washed out
  • Worn bearings replaced where needed
  • Refrigerant pressure tested, not topped blind
  • Unit re-hung, levelled and re-tested

Best forNoisy units, repeat water leaks, or long-neglected systems.

Something has stopped working altogether? Book a fault visit instead. We diagnose first and quote the repair before touching it — a wash will not fix a failed capacitor or a leaking coil.

Open-plan workspace with glass partitions and desks, the kind of space Prism Room keeps cool.

On the day

How a visit runs

The same four steps every time, in homes and in offices, so you know what the hour will look like.

  1. Sheet down and protect

Floors and furniture covered, power isolated at the breaker before any panel comes off.

  2. Measure before

Airflow and the temperature split are recorded as found, so there is a number to compare against afterwards.

  3. Wash and clear

Filters, coil and blower cleaned to the level you booked; the drain line is flushed and watched until it runs clean.

  4. Measure after, write it up

Second reading taken, filter photographed, and anything worth watching noted — with a suggested date for the next wash.

Coverage

Systems we service

Residential and small commercial systems, whoever installed them. If your unit is not on this list, ask — we will say plainly whether it is ours to work on.

  • Wall split
  • Ceiling cassette
  • Ducted / fan coil
  • Window unit
  • Multi-split condenser
  • Portable unit

We service, clean and repair. We do not sell units, and we will not recommend a replacement when a wash and a bearing will do.

Straight answers

Questions we get every week

If yours is not here, add it to the note field when you book and we will answer before we schedule anything.

How often should a home split be serviced?

A general service every three months suits most homes running the unit daily. Light or seasonal use can stretch to every six months, with a chemical wash once a year.

General service or chemical wash — how do I choose?

If the unit still cools quickly and was washed in the last few months, a general service is enough. If airflow has dropped, it smells on start-up, or it has been over a year, go chemical.

Will servicing fix a unit that cools slowly?

Often, yes — most slow cooling is a blocked filter or coil. If the readings after cleaning still fall short, the cause is refrigerant or electrical, and we will tell you that rather than selling another wash.

How long does it take, and do I need to be home?

Allow 45 to 90 minutes per unit. Someone should be there to let us in and to hear the findings at the end, but you do not need to watch the work.

Does servicing make a noisy unit quieter?

If the noise comes from debris or an unbalanced blower wheel, cleaning fixes it. A dry bearing or a cracked mount needs the overhaul, since the part has to be reached and replaced.

Water is dripping indoors — is that urgent?

Switch the unit off to stop the damage and book soon. It is usually a blocked drain or a unit sitting off level; both are quick to put right once the panel is open.

Can you service a unit you did not install?

Yes. Most of our work is on systems installed by someone else. We note the brand and model on the first visit so later services go faster.

Do you top up refrigerant at every service?

No. A sealed system should not lose gas, so a low charge means a leak. We pressure test and find it; routine topping up only hides the problem until next season.

Booking

Book a service visit

Tell us the unit and what it is doing. We reply with a time window and the scope of work, so there are no surprises when we arrive.

  • Step oneWe read your note and confirm which service the unit actually needs.
  • Step twoYou get a proposed window and the scope in writing before anything is booked.
  • Step threeWe arrive with the parts and chemicals that scope requires — no return trip for a filter.

No deposit, and no call-out charge on scheduled servicing. We confirm the scope before the visit is locked in.
