How often should a home split be serviced?
A general service every three months suits most homes running the unit daily. Light or seasonal use can stretch to every six months, with a chemical wash once a year.
General service or chemical wash — how do I choose?
If the unit still cools quickly and was washed in the last few months, a general service is enough. If airflow has dropped, it smells on start-up, or it has been over a year, go chemical.
Will servicing fix a unit that cools slowly?
Often, yes — most slow cooling is a blocked filter or coil. If the readings after cleaning still fall short, the cause is refrigerant or electrical, and we will tell you that rather than selling another wash.
How long does it take, and do I need to be home?
Allow 45 to 90 minutes per unit. Someone should be there to let us in and to hear the findings at the end, but you do not need to watch the work.
Does servicing make a noisy unit quieter?
If the noise comes from debris or an unbalanced blower wheel, cleaning fixes it. A dry bearing or a cracked mount needs the overhaul, since the part has to be reached and replaced.
Water is dripping indoors — is that urgent?
Switch the unit off to stop the damage and book soon. It is usually a blocked drain or a unit sitting off level; both are quick to put right once the panel is open.
Can you service a unit you did not install?
Yes. Most of our work is on systems installed by someone else. We note the brand and model on the first visit so later services go faster.
Do you top up refrigerant at every service?
No. A sealed system should not lose gas, so a low charge means a leak. We pressure test and find it; routine topping up only hides the problem until next season.
